   Flash-selection cinehifx

H1.   With the non existence of any other technique than a chroma key or motion control(those that I am aware of), for cine-, video- or photo- image-editing, the flash selection is, the third alternative one, that is devised by me.

 Both these earlier ones....the Chroma-key and ....the Motion-Control are practiced, for the special effect sequences in Holly wood cinema and by others.  They are good at for the purpose of selection only (the intended), and on no other additional features they could deal with.  Asked me of, what else could be anticipated from a tool meant for purpose of selection only.  But it will be learned in the proceeding pages of my web site, describing of how, the flash selection is in-built with a multitude of other features, apart from, of course the capability of selection.

H2.                                 my methods differ has the following advantages and differ from

1) . Chroma-Key   and   2). motion-control.

       By employing Flash selection procedure, we are in a way would be able to avoid…

a). the extravaganza, of a computerized robotic arm-the so...called jig used sfor motion control, or                a huge Blue-screen as in the case of chroma key.

b).The necessity  of a secondary take incurred.

c). the extra alertness in the planning & execution.

H3.            The 'Motion-Control' as a means to image manipulation tool in cinematography is a high-tech implementation requiring precision/consistency in the maneuver , involving a robotic-arm as-well-as an on stage computation. But it should be acknowledged that a Motion-Control  in theory could do a selection more perfectly, of subjects at all distance. But it is not readily recognized as a cost-effective technique to execute, moreover it may  not able to perform, for e.g., Block or shadow-Selection as-well-as most of the 25 such features (tasks) that is feasible with flash selection and mentioned in the section of high-lights at the end of the site. 

H4.             The method I envisage does not require, a dedicated uniform Back-ground Or requirement of maintaining  ultra-precision in the execution involved, in the repetition of Second take in terms of  Tracking, panning, zooming, lighting etc.  The shoot does not require a controlled indoor atmosphere either. Therefore as normally a shooting can be done equally well at indoor as well as at outdoor.  The decision as to whether, a particular scene does/doesn’t require a special effect treatment, could be decided later and hence invoked at post production

H5.             It means you don't seriously plan to categorise as to which scene needs treatment of special-effect treatment but implement Flashing technique  be carried out for the entire making of the Movie, then enabling various corrections implemented at post-production. The atmospheric colorization or basic aspect like light balancing between the foreground vs the background are some of the common image enhancements that could be naturally fall-in line with the easy reach of flash-selection that too, executable at later stage .  

H6.            The flash selection technique on the other- hand is born out of simple methods/ procedures; it does not require any of the criterion with respect to the philosophy ultra precision as mentioned in motion control technique.

H7.             Many of the image manipulation as well as Image enhancement has become readily feasible, thanks to Auto selection -functionality of flash selection. With the combined forces of both the manipulation cum enhancement feasible with flash selection,  the combined creative potential of in special effects will be immense.

  Modification  _flash -selection

H8.             As a sequence of flashing is involved with this method, a little amount of modification would be required to incorporate within the Movie, Video camera by providing a socket for flash sync, meant to be used with flash-units is essential. There would also be required a timing mechanism to govern, the flashing at regular interval of predetermined laps of frames.  It should be re-iterated here that these flashing happens at a low intensity especially with making of movie with Digital Capture where the ISO could be increased very much high for the flashed frames. In a sense it is contrary to the high out-put of a flash generally involved with conventional photography. The flashing happens just to augment with the much more powerful ambient light, either a Tungsten or sunlight. 

H9.             The intervening frames so acquired would merely serves the purpose of creating selection masks for Image Editing. The projection footage,however would devoid of this flashed frames anyway.

H10.         Apart from that, the flashed frames serving the purpose of masking, would enable to balance/sub-due the nature of high contrast outdoor lighting on the background, in relation to that of the lighting on the actor in the foreground. Hence this inherently means lesser amount of filler light, would be sufficient on the actor than the full quota of lighting usually employed. Therefore this method also finds its usage for simply balancing the existing lighting of a shoot on stage. This is  the very basic requirement one would have to deal with, movie making but very important, apart from the major special effects planned at post production that was originally intended. 

H11.          This technique is also to be augmented with yet another additional Six effective logics, which I envisage would produce efficient range automatic masks.  These masks could be layered, and the final configuration of this automatic-mask  as a composite would be derived by an intelligent algorithm. This kind of automatic nature of masking very much of essence is  for motion picture purpose, which essentially an involvement with, editing on numerous frames.

 THE  POSITION  OF  REFERENCE - LIGHTS

H12.          The secondary lighting we would input with a flash known as 'Reference light' that could be in the form of total frontal fill-flash, tungsten or from a reflector. It could also be placed at an angle in-relation to the subject. The 'Reference' light could also be set to aim its illumination only on the background (causing a silhouette effect).

H13.         We decide on how many of this ref:frames to occur within the capture rate of key frames.  Normally the Motion-Picture is captured at the rate of 24 frames per second. It may be decided of the occurrence,  of the Ref: frames, intervening at every 4 frames of the 24 frames per sec capture. Then In such a case, an another 6 numbers additional Ref:frame, gets itself exposed among those key-frames at that normal capture-rate (at 24frames). That makes up the total number of frames captured for second to be  30 frames instead of the usual 24 frames.

H14.         This rate of exposures would vary depending upon the action involved and the camera movement.

H15.          I am also keen to see such kind of shutter with flash sync that I have conceptualized is manufactured to to find it's usage mainly general application of photography, as well as in cinematography

H16.         But instead of dwelling upon the topics of shutter-mechanisms in existence, or what kind of a one that will be  innovated in future, I wish to speak about about the techniques that is impressive so that how to devise and implement a soft ware for a new selection- methodology,

H17.         Speaking in general terms; I wanted to extremely minimize the efforts of resorting to magic wand,  colour-range or lasso tool (in particular) to enable the process of selection and to make it  happen automatically, and in a faster way on image editing. Flash selection will makes such selection, almost automatic than what you might have experienced with lasso tool.

H18.          I have tried here to find (better) solution for many of your unresolved problem / puzzle that you would encounter in photography being myself photographer as you are. I have every trust that, there would be smoother drive in your photographic experience, there on accomplishing this project. (Pardon me, for not revealing all the detail explicitly. You would understand, they are retained for some procedural purpose).

H19.         The procedure so-far explored  is to meet the specialized requirement of photographers involved in Industrial, Advertising, fashion and special-effect cinematography also to bring-forth an easy methodology of selection in common photography, photo finishing and in post-production Industry.

H20.                               My intension here is even more broad based than incorporating my ideas into a Image editing software or manufacturing an advanced type of camera shutter (which could sync flash at very high speed).. Your support could help me to innovate in this line as well as a proponent of the technology –  the Flash-selection. I hope my ideas are based on well-founded reasoning in the science of Photography. . Ultimately it is the support of yours that matters, which could make my ideas, start galloping.

H27.                                Doesn’t it appear to be a mythical science ?

H28.                                Well I am  suppose I am sincerely of talking about  ..an absolute science…the science of  photography.

   I trust very much that it becomes an issue of hot-pursuit (sought-after) in Image editing among the “Digital Happening” we are used to hear these days
